WHAT IS FACILITATION?

One of the keys to harnessing the potential of individuals, teams, communities and organisations is great facilitation. Facilitators are called upon to fill an impartial role in helping groups become more effective. We act as process guides to create a balance between participation and results.

Our effectiveness is based on our personal integrity and the trust developed between ourselves and those with whom we work.  As group facilitators, we believe in the inherent value of the individual and the collective wisdom of the group. We strive to help the group make the best use of the contributions of each of its members. We set aside our personal opinions and support the group's right to make its own choices. We believe that collaborative and cooperative interaction builds consensus and produces meaningful outcomes.

In practice this means that the facilitator's job is to support everyone to do their best thinking. To do this, the facilitator encourages full participation, promotes mutual understanding and cultivates shared responsibility. This is not always an easy task when often what occurs under the surface of group life (the egos in the room, the silent battles to be right, to not appear foolish, to be heard or to accept and acknowledge a different paradigm) clouds the work task of the group.. The facilitator manages both the conscious and unconscious elements of the group’s existence from a neutral stance, and skilfully draws out the wisdom of the group present. This enables group members to search for inclusive solutions and build sustainable agreements.

As expert process guides we understand the intricacies of group dynamics and know how to get the best out of groups. Underpinning all our work is a deep commitment to fostering and promoting self awareness. We believe that self awareness is a prerequisite for being a healthy human being!. It helps us relate more meaningfully with others, as well as assisting us to develop empathy for others.

'Thankyou Ursula, your facilitation skills are excellent. Your personable, down to earth nature assisted the whole team to be fully engaged in the session. The feedback from the team was  that your session was a highlight for them. We look forward to working with you again in the future.'

'Lindy's facilitation style is personable, professional and engaging. The feedback we constantly receive from our LGPro participants reflects Lindy's ability to make each participant feel personally immersed in a learning experience. One of Lindy's key strengths is her ability to adapt to different audiences and to draw from the real-life experiences of those in the room. Lindy also brings great energy and a sharp sense of humour to her workshops and one on one coaching sessions which can make the most challenging discussions more 'palatable' and fun.'
